I had no income and I needed some, so I decided to apply for
disability income from the Social Security Administration. I heard a lot of bad
stories about how applications weren’t approved the first time around and that
people almost always had to appeal denials. Armed with my discharge papers from
all three hospitals, I was ready for a fight.
My name is Amanda Kirton and I survived a hemorrhagic stroke. "What is a hemorrhagic stroke?", you ask. My brain was filling up with blood. I was fortunate to be in Georgetown's Hospital when it happened. I came to the hospital complaining of stomach pain but it turns out I had a stroke instead. Georgetown Hospital immediately transferred me to St. Davids Main. I had all the bells and whistles. Too bad I didn't wake up for it. I will never forget July 26, 2017. The beginning of my new life.
